Moebius. Alla ricerca del tempo
Moebius is one of the most influential cartoonists and illustrators of all time, the greatest exponent of the Ninth French art and author of visionary works known and translated all over the world such as Blueberry, Arzach, Il Garage Ermetico or L’Incal. The exhibition celebrates the art of Moebius, but also his particular bond with Italy and with Naples, the city protagonist of his comic stories See Naples and Die and then see Naples: "It's strange, every time I work on a story there are no problems regarding Naples: everything goes smoothly. Naples has something that fascinates me, that always touches me in a special way… ”(Mœbius, Mourir et Voir Naples, Paris 2000).
The exhibition itinerary is divided into 330 works, set up in the rooms of the Prehistory and Protohistory collection of the museum. Iconic figures such as the warrior Arzak, Major Grubert or the space travelers Stel and Atan meet here. You get lost in the dizzying images of the Inside Moebius booklets and in the fantastic inventions of La Faune de Mars. There is of course a section dedicated to the links between Moebius and Italy, or with Venice, Milan and above all Naples. A significant space is destined to the most intimate dimension of Moebius's work, to his research on the "inner desert", with the plates taken from 40 jour dans le Désert B and to personal experiments on the fantastic forms of crystals and gems that accompanied the work by the artist (the exhibition is enriched with precious minerals, thanks to the collaboration with the Mineral Art Gallery of Naples).
An entire section is dedicated to Dante, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the death of the great poet, and to the memorable Moebiusian interpretation of Paradise, for the Nuages Gallery. Two films complete the itinerary: an animated 3D directed by Moebius and BUF Compagnie, inspired by the story La Planète Encore and METAMOEBIUS, a 52-minute documentary by Damian Pettigrew and Olivier Gal and augmented reality, which gives life to some paintings (just download an APP and frame the works with a simple smartphone). The exhibition is organized by COMICON under the artistic direction of Mœbius Production, is part of the OBVIA (Out Of Boundaries Viral Art Dissemination) project of the University of Naples Federico II for the MANN and is sponsored by the Campania Region, Municipality of Naples and Institut Français.
