Degas. Il ritorno a Napoli

For the first time ever, the city of Naples hosts an exhibition dedicated to the famous French impressionist, Edgar Degas. Through a rich selection of almost 200 original works, the Municipality of Naples, in collaboration with Vincenzo Sanfo - the show's curator and art collector - brings to light the close relationship that Degas nurtured with Italy and Naples from his youth.

The exhibition is divided into three thematic areas: the painter's youthful production with clear reference to his Neapolitan time and the city atmosphere; the subjetcs that would later distinguish Degas' art, such as dancers, prostitutes, racehorses and café-chantants of the Belle Époque; as third, drawings and paintings related to the more socialite life - but also more tumultuosed - aspects of Degas' life. Alongside these, some photographs taken by the artist himself and a series of pictorial and graphic works by Neapolitan artists who came into contact with him.
